JMU roundup: Dukes’ West selected for tournament

HARRISONBURG — Rising redshirt sophomore field hockey forward Taylor West was selected to compete in the USA Field Hockey Women’s High Performance National Championships this week. West is one of 108 athletes competing on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk in hopes of being named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster.
West played for the Mid-Atlantic/South team under the direction of North Carolina Associate Head Coach Grant Fulton. She scored two goals in five games to help her squad go 3-1-1 in round robin play and advance to the tournament championship.
The tournament consists of a five-game round robin schedule with the championship game being held at 1 p.m. on May 29.
U.S. National Team head coach Craig Parnham attended the event to evaluate players and selected players to participate for Team USA on an international stage.
Three other Dukes, rising redshirt junior goalkeeper Stephanie Tarafas, rising junior midfielder Dana Allaband and rising sophomore forward Kristen Reitano participated in the regional selections are eligible to be selected to the Under-21 team in June.
