MADISON -- Central's softball team hung tough with top-seeded Madison County but still came up short in a 1-0 loss in the Bull Run District softball tournament semifinals on Tuesday.
The game was scoreless through four, but the Mountaineers scored a run in the fifth and were able to make it hold up.
Morgan Davis, Sydney Plum, Bekah Ansbro and Mikayla Viar each had a single for the Falcons (11-10). Ansbro took the loss, giving up just six hits, while striking out six.
Madison County hosts second-seeded Clarke County in Thursday's final. The Falcons will play on the road in the Region B tournament on Monday.
James Wood 7, Skyline 0
FRONT ROYAL -- James Wood's Kierstyn Peacoe had a stellar all-around game in leading the Colonels to a 7-0 upset victory over Skyline in the Northwestern District softball tournament championship on Tuesday.
Peacoe fired a complete-game shutout for the win, striking out 11 while only allowing five hits and a walk.
At the plate, Peacoe was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, a walk and a run scored for the Colonels.
Also for third-seeded James Wood (9-12), Rachel Largent was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Tori Armel and Taylor Rizzari each had two hits and an RBI.
Sarah Beamer pitched and took the loss for No. 1 seed Skyline. Beamer allowed 12 hits and struck out three.
