STEPHENS CITY -- Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy fell to visiting United Christian Academy, 13-5, in the VACA North Region baseball semifinals on Friday afternoon.
The Patriots (8-9) fell behind early in the game, trailing by nine runs after four innings of play. SVCA surrendered just six hits to Crusaders batters, but the Patriots' pitching staff dealt 12 walks in the game, a result of what SVCA coach Bobby Wheelock called a very tight strike zone.
Sophomore Lucas Pufnock led the Patriots offensively, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Taylor Jones and Tyler Fincham also had RBIs for SVCA.
The Patriots will most likely play Fresta Valley today in the consolation game at Bing Crosby Stadium in Front Royal. Fresta Valley trailed Grace Christian 15-5 with two outs remaining in the top of the fifth inning on Friday before rain suspended the contest. That game will be finished today prior to the consolation and championship games.
SVCA, which has already claimed a spot in the VACA state tournament, can earn the third seed in the state tournament with a win today.
