Prep roundup: Wildcats fall in regionals

Daily Staff Report –

POWHATAN — A slow start proved costly for Warren County on Tuesday.

The Wildcats gave up three runs in the bottom of the third inning en route to a 3-2 loss to the Indians in the Region II softball quarterfinals.

“We didn’t come out of the gate too well,” Warren County coach Justin Stock said. “We struggled defensively … we struggled offensively.”

The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the sixth, on a two-run single by Paige McLachlan.

Warren County started off slow this season, but had won six in a row before Tuesday’s defeat.

“We were 7-9 and the kids could have folded the season up, but they did a great job of battling back,” Stock said. “They have nothing to hang their heads about. They did a tremendous job.”
