SU roundup: Six Hornets earn Academic All-State honors

NEWPORT NEWS — Six Shenandoah University student-athletes have earned Academic All-State honors in selections announced Thursday afternoon by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors.

Juniors Samantha Sisson (women’s lacrosse) and Jenna Kline (women’s soccer) earn repeat honors, while sophomores Holly Chittenden (women’s basketball), Eric Hobby (men’s lacrosse), Corbin Lucas (baseball) and Michael Paul (baseball) all were named for the first time.

Honorees must have at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale and have reached sophomore athletics eligibility.

The six have an average GPA of 3.67, with Kline leading the way with a 3.95 as a pre-Physical Therapy major.

Paul leads the men with a 3.82 as a Mathematics major.

Four of the six have earned All-league honors at least once in their careers with Sisson grabbing first team All-ODAC accolades this spring after leading her women’s lacrosse team to the ODAC Championship game.

She has a 3.76 GPA as an Occupational Therapy major and is a three-time first team All-league honoree.

Chittenden, 3.63 in Biology/Pre PT, and Lucas, 3.42 as a Political Science major, both were named third team All-ODAC this year.

Hobby serves as a team captain for men’s lacrosse.
