Error-filled night costs Post 53

LEESBURG — A seven-error night proved costly for the Front Royal Post 53 American Legion baseball team on Wednesday night in a 9-6 loss to Leesburg Post 34.

Front Royal (9-5) outhit host Leesburg, 9-8, but the errors led to a combined five unearned runs.

Offensively, Neil Dutton led Post 53 with a 2-for-3 effort and scored two runs. Chaz Rutherford chipped in a 2-for-4 night with a run scored and an RBI, and Heath Almarode also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Dutton started on the mound and took the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) in seven innings. He struck out five.

On Tuesday against host Manassas Post 158, Front Royal picked up a 10-6 victory.

Tyler Post delivered a 2-for-6 effort with four RBIs and a run scored, and Hunter Stewart was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored for Post 53. Dutton added two RBIs in the win.

Joey Catalani started and got the win, allowing four runs (three earned) in six innings. He struck out four.
