JMU roundup: Ford shines for Team USA

BRAMPTON, Ont. — James Madison softball rising sophomore pitcher/first baseman Jailyn Ford completed play with the USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team on Sunday at the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior World Championship.
Ford earned a silver medal with Team USA in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. She appeared in two games, throwing four innings. The left-hander struck out seven of the 13 batters she faced, going 1-0 and giving up one hit.
Ford threw three innings in a shutout effort of Puerto Rico. She allowed one hit and struck out five in the 15-0 shutout. Her other appearance was an inning of perfect relief in a 13-0 win over the Czech Republic. Ford struck out two of the three batters she faced.
Team USA went 8-1 during the tournament including eight shutouts. USA faced Japan in the gold medal game, falling 4-0 in a rain shortened game. The team outscored its opponents 70-4 and only allowed runs in one inning the entire tournament.
