Post 21 downs Stafford Americans

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

Cody Unger got the scoring started early for Winchester Post 21's baseball team, smacking a three-run home run in the first inning against Stafford Americans Post 290 in Wednesday's District 16 American Legion baseball tournament in Stafford.

Top-seeded Winchester kept the hits coming to pick up an 11-4 victory and stay undefeated after two games in the double-elimination tournament.

Unger finished with four RBIs for Winchester (21-4). Jacob Carney added a 3-for-4 effort with a double and a triple, Justin Angel was 2-for-3 and Nick Goode went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

That was plenty of support for Post 21 starting pitcher Addison Barber, who hurled six innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk. Barber struck out three. Daniel Nawrocki tallied the save by pitching three scoreless innings to close out the win. He struck out four.

Winchester will take on the winner of Thursday's Front Royal Post 53/Stafford Nationals Post 290 game later that night.

Front Royal, the tournament's No. 2 seed, did not play Wednesday after winning its first game on Tuesday night. Post 53 will play twice on Thursday.
