WINCHESTER -- Shenandoah University women's basketball coach C.K. Calhoun announced Monday a group of nine newcomers into her program for the 2013-14 season.
These nine women will join a group of nine returnees for Calhoun.
Shenandoah is coming off of a 12-win season that saw the Hornets reach the Old Dominion Athletic Conference quarterfinals in Calhoun's first season at the helm of the program.
The nine players represent six different states, including the university's only student-athlete from Illinois and just its second from Maine.
The class has an average height of nearly 5 feet, 8 inches, boasts three guards, one forward and four combo players.
Stonewall Jackson's Ashlie Clar, Luray's Emily Heiston, and Morgan Wolfe, from Hedgesville, W.Va., are the area players in the class.
"This pre-season roster gives us a great deal of depth and should make our tryout period very competitive," Calhoun state in a school news release. "We had a good initial run in the ODAC last year and the players that eventually join us are going to help us take the next step in our development. I know they can't wait to get started at Shenandoah both academically and athletically."
Calhoun added that additonal tryout information will be available for the general student population by the first week in September.
SU opens up the 2013-14 season on Nov. 15 at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic.
