SU roundup: Hornets add pair for women's field hockey

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

WINCHESTER -- New Shenandoah University head field hockey coach Ashley Smeltzer announced Thursday a pair of recruits that she is adding to her program.

Smeltzer, who took over in February as the third head coach in program history, brings Alexa Lapp and Taylor Little onto her squad for this fall.

She also has one additional recruit, a transfer, that is finalizing her admission to Shenandoah.

Lapp is a forward/midfielder from Pennsylvania, and Little a forward from Maryland.

These two women join a group of 13 returnees that will make up the 2013 team.

"I am very happy to welcome these women into the program," Smeltzer stated in a school news release. "The team worked hard during the spring season and I know these players are immediately ready to compete with the returnees for playing time."

SU opens up its 2013 season on Aug. 30 with a non-league match against Wilson. The ODAC opener is Sept. 27 versus Lynchburg.
