SU roundup: Hornets announce eight men's basketball recruits

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

WINCHESTER -- Shenandoah University men's basketball coach Rob Pryor released Thursday morning a list of eight recruits into his program for the upcoming year.

Pryor is bringing four guards, two forwards and two centers onto his squad for the 2013-14 season. These eight players will join with 15 returnees to make up his third team at Shenandoah.

The two centers, Brandon Kibbe and Tyler Lineberry, are 6 feet, 8 inches and 6-6, respectively.

These two, along with 6-6 forward CJ Rudisill, give the group an average height of 6-3 1/2.

Last season, the Hornets had just one player on the 14-man squad taller than 6-3.

The eight combined for six all-district/all-county awards with Nik Stewart being named Battlefield District Player of the Year and Jaylen Street earning Delaney Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors.

Stewart is the leading scorer of the group, pouring in 22.2 points per game last season for Culpeper High School, while Street averaged a double-double (20 ppg., 10 rpg.) at Quantico.

Walt Moody, a 6-2 guard, nearly matched Street with averages of 21.0 ppg. and 8.5 rpg. at River Hill (Md.).

Aaron Patterson, from Liberty-Bealeton, and Caleb Williamson, a home-schooled guard from Dinwiddie, round out the class.

Patterson was a first team All-Evergreen District honoree last season.

"I want to thank [lead assistant] Allen Corbin for his help in bringing in this outstanding class," Pryor stated in a school news release. "We play in the toughest league in the nation and I think these guys are ready for that type of competition.

"We can't wait to get the season started."

SU opens the 2013-14 season with an exhibition at Division I Campbell University on Nov. 8.
