HARRISONBURG – The James Madison University football program announced on Tuesday that sophomore quarterback Michael Birdsong is undergoing an emergency appendectomy today. Birdsong will be out indefinitely with the recovery timeline to be determined in the near future.
“This definitely is disappointing for Michael and the entire program,” Head Coach Mickey Matthews said in a press release. “He had a very solid spring to prepare for the season, so I know he is disappointed personally. We will adapt, starting with today’s practice, and hope that Michael will have a speedy recovery and can be back on the field soon.”
Birdsong is expected to be JMU’s starting quarterback this season.
