HARRISONBURG -- Stonewall Jackson High School's golf team flashed some enviable depth in winning its second Shenandoah District mini-tournament in as many days on Thursday at Heritage Oaks Golf Course.
The Generals' scorers shot a combined 308 to win the tournament by eight strokes, with three Stonewall golfers carding numbers in the 70s. Andrew Good was the top finisher for Stonewall with a 70, and missed earning low-medalist honors by just one stroke.
Good and Buffalo Gap's Nate Hildebrand headed into the final hole tied for the lead. Good came through with a par score, but Hildebrand sank a birdie to finish with a 69.
"He and Andrew were neck-and-neck," Generals coach Roger Wilkins said. "They had a heckuva duel going on."
Jonathan Koontz added a 78 and Colton Harlow scored a 79 for Stonewall Jackson. Ben Rosenberger wasn't far off with an 82 to complete the scoring. Kory Somers finished with an 82 and Eric Arnesen had an 86 in non-scoring finishes for the Generals.
Wilson Memorial was the runner-up with a combined 316.
Another district mini-tournament is scheduled for Monday at Shenvalee Golf Resort in New Market.
