WINCHESTER — Shenandoah University field hockey coach Ashley Smeltzer announced Wednesday that she has added Alyssa David to her coaching staff for the 2013 season.

David comes to Shenandoah after a four-year career for longtime Division III power William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.

David, who was a four-year starter on defense for the Hurons, begins her first collegiate coaching assignment after completing a playing career that saw her play in two NCAA Tournaments and win one Liberty League title.

In addition to her William Smith playing career, David spent a semester studying at Trinity St. David University in Wales in the spring of 2012 and helped that squad to its first-ever victory over its rival university.

“I had a chance to watch Alyssa as a player in the past two years,” Smeltzer, who came to SU in March from another Liberty League institution, the University of Rochester, stated in a school news release. “I was always impressed with her as a player and when I got the job here, I immediately thought about her as someone to bring into the program to help us to the next level in our development.

“I think she is going to be a great addition for us.”

With the Hornets, David will be involved in all aspects of the program.
