SALEM -- The Shenandoah University football team is the pre-season No. 7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference pick in preseason poll results released Friday morning by the conference office.
The poll of the league's eight coaches was released Friday as part of their first-ever preseason meeting.
Shenandoah, under the direction of first year coach Scott Yoder, has 12 points in the poll to come in ahead of eighth place Catholic.
SU finished its inaugural ODAC campaign with a 1-9 overall record and was 0-7 in the league.
Last season, the Hornets were picked tied for seventh (with Guilford) in the preseason poll.
Hampden-Sydney is the league's preseason favorite after registering three first-place votes and 42 points. The Tigers just edged out longtime rival Randolph-Macon, who also had three first place votes but finished with 40 points.
Bridgewater and 2012 champ Washington and Lee came next, splitting the final two first place votes and posting 39 and 38 points, respectively.
Emory and Henry and Guilford tied for fifth at 22 points before SU came in with 12.
Catholic rounded out the poll with nine points.
Points are awarded on a 1-7 basis and coaches cannot vote for their own schools in the poll.
"The poll is a reflection of where we finished last year," Yoder stated in a school news release. "We have turned the page and are ready to get out there and compete each week. I know our guys can't wait to get the season started."
Shenandoah opens up its season on Sept. 7 with a 7 p.m. non-league home game against Gallaudet.
