FOREST -- The Shenandoah University women's soccer team is the pre-season No. 6 selection of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference coaches in pre-season poll results released Wednesday by the league office.

The Hornets, who made an appearance in the ODAC semifinals last season thanks to a 3-2 overtime victory over Washington and Lee in the tournament quarterfinals, have 88 points in the poll to find themselves sandwiched between No. 5 Roanoke and No. 7 Randolph-Macon.

Defending champion Lynchburg, which downed SU in the tournament semis, is the pre-season pick to win it again in 2013.

Lynchburg has 10 first-place votes and 142 points.

Voting was done on a 12-1 basis and coaches could not vote for their own team in the poll.

Coach Liz Pike's club opens its season on Friday evening at 8 p.m. in a non-league home game against Mary Washington. The ODAC opener is Sept. 14 versus Randolph.
