SU roundup: Two join Hornets' women's soccer coaching staff

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

WINCHESTER -- Shenandoah University women's soccer coach Liz Pike announced Monday that she has added two assistants into her program for the upcoming season.

Pike, preparing for her seventh year at the helm of the program, has added Hank Leung as technical instructor and Bobby Foglesong as assistant coach.

Leung comes on board as the program's first-ever technical instructor after having served as head coach at George Mason University, where he won the 1985 NCAA Division I national championship, and as a coach with the U.S. National Team.

In this role, Leung will direct all the technical strategies for the women's soccer program.

In addition to coaching stints with Mason and USNT, Leung has professional assistant experience with the Philadelphia Fury of the NASL and served as the Director of Coaching for the Virginia Youth Soccer Association.

He has additional amateur experience with the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer and Eastern Pennsylvania Soccer associations.

In 2011, he served as the technical advisor for MIT, helping that squad to just its second NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

Foglesong comes to Shenandoah after wrapping up a professional playing career with the Richmond Kickers earlier this year.

A 2011 Old Dominion University graduate, Foglesong finished his collegiate playing career in 2010 by helping the Monarchs to four NCAA Tournament appearances including two trips to the Sweet 16.

After playing for both the Richmond Kickers Futures and the Virginia Beach Piranhas as an amateur, Foglesong moved to the Kickers professional side following the completion of his collegiate career.

With the Hornets, Foglesong continues a coaching career that started in 2007 with the ODU Player Development system. Since then, he has worked with the Hampton Roads Strikers, the Stafford Soccer Club, the Technical Training Academy and four different age group teams within the Kickers club system.

"I am very pleased to have both Hank and Bobby join our staff," Pike stated in a school news release. "Hank has been successful at the highest levels of college women's soccer and he is going to be a great asset to our program.

"Bobby is a very good young coach who is going to relate well to our team."

Leung, who is a member of the Virginia-Washington, D.C. Soccer Hall of Fame, holds a US Soccer 'A' License.

Both men start their part-time duties immediately.
