Prep roundup: R-MA notches first football win

QUANTICO -- Visiting Randolph-Macon Academy struck early and often for a 40-6 victory over Quantico in Patriot Conference football action on Friday night.

R-MA quarterback Garrett Cavanaugh connected with running back Kevin Slaton on a 25-yard touchdown pass play on the Yellow Jackets' opening possession of the game.

The Jackets' quickly padded to that on Quantico's next possession, when Jonathan Moore scooped up a fumble in the Warriors' backfield and raced 40 yards on the fumble return for a touchdown.

Cavanaugh struck again on R-MA's next possession, connecting with Carson Holder on a 65-yard touchdown pass as the Yellow Jackets stretched their lead to 20-0.

A 40-yard touchdown run by Slayton Speer and a 10-yard TD run by Slaton pushed R-MA's lead to 34-0 at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets added one more score in the second half, a 20-yard touchdown run by Faa Faa Eke-Spiff.

"It was a nice win," R-MA coach Frank Sullivan said. "It was a good effort by the kids."

R-MA improved to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
