WINCHESTER – Shenandoah University Head Women’s Basketball Coach C.K. Calhoun announced Thursday that she has added Crystal Williams ’11 to her staff as an assistant coach.
Williams, who recently earned her Master’s Degree in Sport Leadership from VCU, rounds out Calhoun’s staff for the 2013-14 season.
Calhoun announced this summer the addition of Melissa Kraft as her full-time assistant while Meredith Cox returns for her third year as a part-time assistant.
Williams played two years at SU after transferring from DII Wheeling Jesuit and helped the Hornets to 26 victories during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
She started 41 of 50 games played, averaging 4.5 points per game, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Byrd School of Business with a 3.90 GPA.
Williams was a two-time Academic All-league selection.
This past winter, she worked as a Graduate Assistant in the women’s basketball office at the University of Richmond. In this role, she assisted the coaching staff with video breakdown of opponents and the operations staff with the logistical aspects of the Spiders’ program.
“I am very happy to have Crystal join us as an assistant,” Calhoun said in a press release. “I have gotten to know her in the past year, and I have been very impressed with her passion and knowledge of the game.
“I have no doubt that she is going to be a great basketball coach and I couldn’t be more pleased that she is starting her coaching career here with us at Shenandoah.”
The Hornets open the 2013-14 season, their second under Calhoun, on November 15 at the Randolph-Macon Tournament. SU plays both Rutgers-Newark and Christopher Newport in the classic format event.
