RICHMOND - James Madison University swimming and diving senior Kelsey Holmgaard has been named the Colonial Athletic Association co-Swimmer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. This is the first time in her career that she claimed the CAA's weekly honor.
Holmgaard helped guide JMU to a the team title in last weekend's West Virginia Invitational. She competed in seven events, including four relays, claiming five first-place finishes. The reigning CAA champion in the 200-yard breaststroke claimed individual titles in both individual medley events. She timed a 4:33.94 in the 400-yard IM to outrace the field by over half a second while completing the 200-yard IM in 2:06.93, winning by nearly three seconds.
Holmgaard also placed seventh in the 100-yard freestyle. She also helped guide JMU to relay titles in 200-yard freestyle relay, the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay.
UNCW's Hannah Stephenson shared the Swimmer of the Week honor with Holmgaard while Towson's Lyndsey Dickson claimed Diver of the Week.
JMU is back in action this weekend as it hosts Delaware, William & Mary and UNCW for the CAA Pod Meet.
