On Campus: DeCeault making strides for Redbirds

Krista DeCeault (Sherando '12) is having a solid season for Illinois State.

The cross country runner finished 10th in the Titan Invitational in Normal, Ill., on Oct. 4. She finished in a time of 19:40, which was third for the Redbirds. Illinois State placed second in the meet behind the University of Wisconsin.

Last weekend DeCeault was 133rd (22:59) in the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Illinois. She was third on the team.

She also ran a 19:06.76 in the Redbird Invitational on Sept. 13 in Normal, Ill. The Redbirds finished second in the meet. In the first meet of the season, DeCeault placed 13th in a time of 11:40.22 in the Hawkeye Invitational on Aug. 31.

The Missouri Valley Conference Championships will be held Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, with the NCAA Midwest Regionals being held on Nov. 15.

SOARING EAGLES: Several local athletes are putting up solid numbers for Bridgewater's football team this season.

Cliff Woodard (Warren County '10) has three kick returns for a team-best 50.7 average. He also has six receptions for 64 yards. Jayme Perry (Warren County '11) has three catches for 49 yards, and also has three tackles.

Jordan Hartman (Millbrook '11) is third on the team in rushing yards with 117 on 24 carries. He also has 15 kick returns for 348 yards, 23.2 per return. Hartman also has nine punt returns for 104 yards, 11.6 per return. Kicker Chandler DeHaven (James Wood '12) leads the Eagles in points scored with 42. DeHaven has made 21 of 22 extra-point attempts, and has hit 7 of 11 field-goal attempts. His season long is from 39 yards.

The Eagles are 3-4 on the season, including 0-4 in the ODAC.

HIGHLANDER HIT: Kelby Jackson (James Wood '13) is having a strong freshman season for Radford University. Jackson has been steady all season and has played in more sets than any player on the team.

She has 49 assists, and nine service aces in 26 matches. Jackson is second on the team with 308 digs, 2.93 per set. The defensive player also has two kills for the Highlanders.

On Oct. 7, Jackson was named the Big South Freshman of the Week. The Highlanders went 2-1 the previous week, and Jackson played a big part in their success. She played in 13 sets that week and had a combined 47 digs, 3.62 per set. She also had four assists and two aces.

Jackson had a match-high 19 digs in a 3-2 win over N.C. Central on Oct. 1.

The Highlanders are 18-8, and 7-2 in the Big South. In a five-set win over Campbell University on Oct. 12, Jackson had a season-high 21 digs and she had three assists.

On Oct. 26, Jackson had 13 digs in a five-set victory over Presbyterian College. She also had four assists.
