Prep roundup: Central girls win district title; Rams’ Middleton claims boys crown

WASHINGTON, Va. — Central High School’s girls cross country team placed four runners in the top 15 in winning the Bull Run District championship meet on Wednesday.
Lexi Keller (eighth, 21:03), Heather Landes (11th, 21:15), Elsa Garcia (12th, 21:21), Bethany Neri (13th, 21:23) and Emily Walker (22nd, 21:59) contributed to the scoring in the Falcons’ championship effort. Central had 66 points to top runner-up George Mason (74).
In the boys race, Strasburg’s Max Middleton was the individual champion with a winning time of 17:09. George Mason won the boys competition with 50 points, while Strasburg was second with 62.
Strasburg’s girls took third, getting scoring finishes from Morgan Carter (ninth, 21:06), Caroline Miller (16th, 21:35), Sarah Peer (17th, 21:47), Cheyenne Combs (19th, 21:50) and Haley Garrett (24th, 22:03).
Warren County’s girls won a tie-breaker with host Rappahannock County to finish fourth. Rachel Oden was second overall in 20:48 and Fiona Sayers was seventh in 21:00 for the Wildcats, who also got scoring finishes from Claire Morrow (20th, 21:51), Karley Shanks (33rd, 23:04) and Mara Brown (38th, 23:51).
Rappahannock County’s Julia Wood won the girls race in 19:11.
Joining Middleton with scoring efforts for the Rams were Nic Campbell (seventh, 17:41), Timmy Wallis (ninth, 17:50), Dylan Campbell (22nd, 18:30) and Neelon Davis (23rd, 18:34).
Central’s boys were third. Scoring for the Falcons were Ivan Alvarado (eighth, 17:42), Tristan Lucy-Speidel (12th, 17:59), Taylor LaFever (18th, 18:20), Zach Zollner (19th, 18:22) and Ryan Freiwald (21st, 18:29).
Warren County was fourth in the boys competition. For the Wildcats, Nick Myers (fourth, 17:33), Nathaniel Lund (24th, 18:38), Erik Stafira (26th, 18:46), Zack Workman (32nd, 19:03) and Michael Mallery (34th, 19:20) factored in the scoring.
East Rockingham tri-meet
ELKTON — Stonewall Jackson’s Ashton Davis locked up the Shenandoah District girls cross country runner of the year honor by winning Wednesday’s tri-meet at East Rockingham.
Davis, who won the honor based on a dual meet point system, finished first in the girls race in 20:07. Buffalo Gap was first in the girls race with 35 points, followed by East Rockingham (46) and Stonewall (51).
Also scoring for the Generals in the girls meet were Brandy Webb (fourth, 22;00), Aletse Tapia (15th, 26:34), Hannah Marston (16th, 26:59) and Kim Ware-Simmons (21st, 29:49).
In the boys race, Buffalo Gap was first with 32 points to top East Rockingham (36) and Stonewall (52). East Rockingham’s Collin Wallace won the boys race in 17:51.
Scoring for Stonewall were Pedro Jacuinde (fifth, 18:42), Tyler Lacek (ninth, 19:33), Andrew Roy (10th, 19:58), Kaelan Sorrells (13th, 20:29) and Isaac Blank (15th, 20:54).
