Prep roundup: Middleton leads Rams to cross country sweep

WASHINGTON, Va. -- Strasburg High School's cross country team swept a tri-meet hosted by Bull Run District rival Rappahannock County on Wednesday.
In the boys meet, the Rams' Max Middleton was first place overall in 17 minutes, 41 seconds. Strasburg won the boys competition with 28 points, followed by Rappahannock County (50) and Clarke County (58).
Other scorers for the Rams were Timmy Wallis (fourth, 18:36), Nic Campbell (sixth, 19:07), Nealon Davis (eighth, 19:20) and Dylan Campbell (ninth, 19:33).
In the girls race, Strasburg's top effort came from Morgan Carter, who finished second overall in 22:50. The Rams totaled 31 points to top Rappahannock (40) and Clarke County (64).
Also scoring for Strasburg were Cheyanne Combs (fifth, 23:36), Caroline Miller (sixth, 23:39), Sarah Peer (seventh, 23:44) and Madison Orndorff (ninth, 24:26).
"Overall it was a good day," Strasburg coach Jeff Rudy said. "It was nice to have a tri-meet. We haven't had a lot of them. We've been going to invitational after invitational."
Stonewall Jackson tri-meet
NEW MARKET -- Stonewall Jackson's Ashton Davis took first place overall in the girls race, but the Generals came up short in separately scored duals against Luray and Stuarts Draft on Wednesday.
Stonewall's girls dropped a 23-38 decision to Luray, and lost 25-35 to Stuarts Draft.
Davis tallied the winning time of 23:05.90 for the Generals. Also scoring for Stonewall's girls were Brandy Webb (fourth, 24:31.20), Aletse Tapia (18th, 30:05.80), Kimberly Ware-Simmons (21st, 35:43.50) and Hannah Marston (22nd, 36:34.00).
In the boys competition, Stonewall topped Luray, 27-28, and downed Stuarts Draft.
Stonewall's Pedro Jacuinde was second overall in 20:44.90. Other scorers for the Generals were Andrew Roy (third, 20:47.00), Tyler Lacek (fifth, 20:58.40), Tucker Lutz (10th, 23:10.80) and Kaelan Sorrells (11th, 23:15.40).
Madison County tri-meet
MADISON -- Warren County posted a pair of runner-up efforts in Wednesday's tri-meet at Madison County.
The Wildcats' Zach Beckner won the boys race with a time of 17:36. George Mason tallied 28 points to edge Warren County (29) and Madison County (83).
Other scorers for the Wildcats were Nick Myers (third, 18:24), Nathaniel Lund (fourth, 18:26), Zack Workman (10th, 19:23) and Erik Stafira (11th, 19:33).
In the girls race, George Mason tallied 24 points to top Warren County (49) and Madison County (62). Chelsea Academy also competed in the girls race, but did not have enough runners to tally a team score.
Rachel Oden led the Wildcats with a third-place effort in 21:26. Other scorers for Warren County were Fiona Sayers (sixth, 21:50), Jacklyn Rankin (16th, 23:46), Mara Brown (24th, 25:10) and Karley Shanks (25th, 25:14).
Randolph-Macon Academy's football team ranked sixth in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association football ratings released on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets, off to a 2-3 start, have a 3.80 rating in the VISAA's Division II rankings. The Potomac School (4-0) is No. 1 with a 12.25 rating.
Massanutten Military Academy (0-5) is unranked in Division IV with a 1.60 rating. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot (4-1) is the top-ranked program in Division IV with an 8.40 rating.
