Bryce Resort to celebrate bike park with Bonanza
By Brad Fauber
With its inaugural mountain bike park season coming to close, Bryce Resort is hosting the Bryce Bike Bonanza this Saturday as a way of celebrating the milestone and thanking the customers who made the 2013 summer season a successful one.
The daylong event, which begins at 10 a.m., allows riders one final opportunity to race down the resort’s many mountain bike courses, as well as the chance to enjoy food, music and prizes.
“It’s pretty much an end of the season party for the bike park,” Bryce Resort general manager Rob Schwartz said in a phone interview Tuesday.
“It’s a thank you for a great first season.”
For the price of the $30 day pass on Saturday, customers gain full access to the resort’s new quad lift and all six of the bike trails, according to the resort’s website. Schwartz said the purchase of a day pass also includes an entry into a drawing to win one of two free season passes to the bike park for next summer, as well as several other giveaways.
The Bike Bonanza will feature a DJ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a grill and beer tent with a specially priced happy hour from noon to 2 p.m., according to the website. There will also be a 16-inch bike race on a flagged off course at the bottom of the ski slopes with prizes awarded to the winners, Schwartz said.
Those in attendance on Saturday will also have the one-time chance to purchase 2014 season passes to the bike park for the discounted price of $180, which is $40 less than the standard price, the website says.
Schwartz said the resort is also encouraging bicycle shops and vendors to attend the Bike Bonanza and represent their companies, although Schwartz said it is “not a sales event” and vendors are not allowed to sell products on resort property.
“We’ve got a few bike shops from Northern Virginia and I think Harrisonburg that might be coming out,” Schwartz said.
The mountain bike resort, which opened on June 22, was a big success, according to Schwartz, and he said the Bike Bonanza is a great way to celebrate that success with Bryce Resort’s customers one final time this year.
“It met all of the goals we wanted it to meet,” Schwartz said. “It brought thousands of people here that never would have stepped foot in the county before.”
