SU roundup: Hammons leads way for Hornets in golf

ROME, Ga. – The Shenandoah University golf team completed its play Tuesday at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational by shooting a collective 311.

Playing over the par-72, 6924-yard Coosa CC course, the Hornets recorded two rounds in the 70s and two more at 80 to post the 311 total.

Shenandoah opened the tournament with a 308 on Monday at Stonebridge GC.

Sophomore Cory Hammons, who had a seven-over-par 79 on Monday, had a two-over 74 Tuesday to earn SU medalist honors.

Hammons had a very steady round, recording 12 pars to go along with two birdies and four bogies. He had an even par 36 on the front nine.

Junior Wes Licklider backed up his even-par 72 from Monday with a five-over 77 Tuesday.

Zach Ramey and Doc Schulte carded the pair of 80s to round out the SU total.

Adam Flees had an 82 and Seth Crean 84 that did not count toward the team total.

Team results and individual places will be announced Tuesday evening following the completion of the 25-team event.

The squad is off until hosting the Virginia State Division III Championships at Winchester Country Club October 13 and 14.
