FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team completed a season sweep of Hood College with a 3-1 victory Thursday night at BB&T Arena.
After dropping the opening set 26-24, SU (10-12) came back to win at 14, 13 and 14 to finish off the Blazers (4-14).
Shenandoah downed Hood by the identical 3-1 score on Sept. 7.
In Thursday's match, the Hornets actually were serving for the victory in the opening set only to see Hood tie matters at 24-24 on a Amy Hagerdon kill and then win it with an SU attack error followed by another kill.
The loss seemed to energize Jaime Terenzi's club -- the Hornets only trailed for a total of two points (at the start of the third set) for the rest of the match.
Senior Haley Smith paced the victors with 12 kills while Samantha Schambach added 10, Rachel Roberts and Allie Pieper nine each and Ashley Tanis eight.
Sophomore Taylor Anderson registered a match-high 20 digs, with Schambach posting a double-double thanks to her 12 digs.
Schambach clinched the match with a kill off of a Tanis assist.
Jasmine Callahan also had a double-double with 21 assists and 10 digs.
Shenandoah returns to conference action on Saturday at Emory and Henry.
