Christendom roundup: Crusaders' rally falls short against Trinity
Daily Staff Report - email@example.com
WASHINGTON -- A late surge by visiting Christendom College wasn't enough to overcome a big early deficit as host Trinity University (D.C.) downed the Lady Crusaders 66-50 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night.
Christendom (0-4) trailed 34-19 at halftime, but produced a 22-6 run late in the second half to pull a bit closer to the host Tigers.
Morgan Kavanagh had a game-high 21 points for the Lady Crusaders. Mary Barbale added 19 points. Kavanagh and Barbale each hit a pair of 3-pointers as well, helping Christendom go a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Andrea Watkins had a team-high 19 points for Trinity (2-1), and Blessing Hayes chipped in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tigers outrebounded Christendom, 44-24.
The Lady Crusaders are back in action Saturday with a road game at Notre Dame of Maryland. Game time is 2 p.m. in Baltimore.
FRONT ROYAL -- Christendom's men's basketball team picked up its first victory of the season on Tuesday night with a 65-58 win over Southern Virginia University's junior-varsity team.
Sophomore guard Jeremy Minick led the Crusaders with 18 points, seven assists and seven steals.
Christendom (1-5) opened up a 25-12 lead midway through the first half, but the Knights regrouped and forced a tie by halftime.
Minick sparked the Crusaders in the second half with a pair of key baskets in the final five minutes, including a 3-pointer that put his team up by four points.
Christendom returns to action Saturday, when it hosts Maryland Bible College in a 4 p.m. game at Crusaders Gymnasium.
