Former high school football standouts Scott Markland and Chandler DeHaven were both announced as first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference football picks by the league on Tuesday.
Markland, a Sherando High School graduate and junior defensive lineman at Hampden-Sydney, was a first-team selection. Markland enjoyed great success in the middle of the Tigers' defensive line, recording 36 tackles, including 7.5 tackles-for-loss. He was also second on the team in sacks with three for a total of 15 yards. He's broken up one pass and recovered one fumble. Additionally, he earned ODAC Player of the Week honors against Guilford.
DeHaven, a James Wood graduate and a sophomore at Bridgewater, was a first-team pick as place kicker. DeHaven was tabbed to the all-conference team for the first time in his career after turning in an outstanding sophomore campaign. He tied the school record with 13 made field goals, tying All-American Mike Padgett's mark set in 1998. DeHaven ranked sixth in the nation in made field goals at the end of the regular season. The sophomore connected on multiple field goals in five games, including a career-high and school-record tying three field goals against Ferrum.
Later in the season, DeHaven booted a career-long 46 yarder against Emory & Henry, while converting three field goals of 40 or more yards on the year.
