BEALETON -- An improved defensive effort, helped lead Sherando to a 56-28 victory over Liberty in non-district girls basketball action Tuesday.
The Warriors, who lost 57-40 to Broadway on Monday, stayed out of foul trouble against the Eagles, and coach Mike Marsh said that was a key for his team.
"We only had three fouls in the first half [against Liberty], [against Broadway] we had 16 or 17 in the first half," Marsh said. "We were much cleaner, we had a much better defensive effort, which allowed us to run more and have a well-rounded game."
The Warriors had three players with at least five steals in the win and Liberty had 31 turnovers in the game. Jess Hakel had 20 points and five steals to lead the Warriors (1-1). Freshman Devina Lane had 14 points and six steals for Sherando, while Heidi Brown added eight points and Audra Sites had five steals.
