HEDGESVILLE — Despite having five starters out, Sherando’s wrestling squad had a strong showing in the Hedgesville duals on Saturday.
Sherando coach Pepper Martin said his team was without four starters due to the football team being in the Class 4A state semifinals, and one starter due to injury. The Warriors went 10-0 in the duals.
“I was real pleased with how we wrestled and with our conditioning at this point in the season,” Martin said. “The kids really wrestled hard. They wrestled well on their feet, and on top, but not too well on the bottom. That lets us know what areas we need to focus on in the next week or two.”
Curtis Guthridge (113, four pins), P.K. Jessen (170, eight pins) and Chris Morgan (195-220, seven pins) went 10-0 for the Warriors. Other wrestlers who fared well for Sherando were: Jacob Guthridge (132, 9-1, nine pins), Colton Simmons (138, 9-0, five pins), Mike Duffy (8-2 five pins), Jordan Dalton (145, 8-2 seven pins), John Borst (152, 8-2, seven pins) and Caleb Cornwell (220, 7-1, six pins).
