Prep roundup: Sherando wins Max Horz Invitational

BERKELEY SPRINGS W.Va. -- Sherando won its first Max Horz Invitational wrestling title since 2000 on Friday night. The tournament was condensed into a one-day tournament due to weather. The Warriors won the event with 208 points, whiler Myersdale (Pa.) was second with 193.

Jacob Guthridge (132) and P.K. Jessen (170) each won titles for the Warriors. Mike Duffy (106), Curtis Guthridge (113) and Jordan Dalton (145) were each second. John Borst (152) placed third for Sherando. Other top finishers for the Warriors were: Andrew Hamilton (fourth, 126), Kendall Helsley (fourth, 160), Colton Simmons (sixth, 138) and Chris Morgan (sixth, 195).

The Warriors are still without a few of its wrestlers due to football season, and coach Pepper Martin said he was happy with how the team performed.

"Our wrestlers did well," Martin said. "They all went their seed or higher. We had a couple surprises. Our depth paid off."

Postgraduate boys basketball

Mt. Zion Prep 62, Massanutten Academy 55

BROOKLANDVILLE, Md. -- Massanutten Academy's postgraduate boys basketball team dropped a 62-55 decision to Mt. Zion Prep (Md.) in Saturday's DMVelite Baltimore Holiday Tip-Off Classic.

Isaac Fleming and Dwayne Foreman scored 13 points apiece to lead the Colonels. Dimitri Sousa added nine points and Raquan Brown-Johnson had eight for Massanutten.
