SU roundup: Hornets sweep ODAC track awards

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

FOREST -- Shenandoah University swept Old Dominion Athletic Conference Track & Field Player of Week honors in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Senior Evan Griffin was named for the men, with junior Emily Cobb earning the women's honor.

Griffin competed in just one event, the shot put, but made the most of it with a toss of 14.32 meters to set a new program record.

In addition to winning the event, the throw is currently the No. 12 in nation so far this season.

Cobb, a sprints/mid-distance runner, was third in the 400 meters and sixth in the 200 to grab her ODAC accolade.

She ran a 1:07.19 in the 400, which is good for the third-best time in the league this season, and a 30.37 in the 200.

Both squads are now off for the Christmas break and return to action on Jan. 10 at the Gotham Cup in New York City.
