Daily Staff Report - firstname.lastname@example.org
ARLINGTON -- Host Marymount University used a big run midway through the first half to key a 76-49 non-conference women's basketball victory over Shenandoah on Wednesday.
Leading 9-8 following an Imani Heggins fast break layup, SU (3-6) saw the Saints score the game's next 11 points in a span of 2:32 to take total control of the contest.
Marymount (6-3) would hold this lead the remainder of the game.
Senior Crystal Petrus stopped the hosts' string with two free throws at 9:47, but Marymount answered by scoring 15 of the next 21 points to expand its advantage.
Sophomore Ashley McGhee, in her first action of the season, had the Hornets' points during this run by canning 3-pointers at 7:37 and 6:37.
Marymount scored the final five points of the half to take a 39-18 lead into the break.
Shenandoah, on the strength of an 8-2 run of its own from 16:35 to 13:35, was able to cut the deficit to 18 points but could get no closer.
The Saints coasted home by tallying 16 of the game's final 24 points over the last 6:09.
Heggins led the Hornets with 11 points, while Petrus added 10 and Holly Chittenden nine.
Kievanna Lacey had a game-high 20 points for the victors, who also had a 34-24 advantage on the glass.
Marymount outscored SU 32-16 in the paint and had a 25-16 advantage in points off of turnovers.
The Hornets are now off for Christmas break and return to action on New Year's Eve at Hood College.
