JMU roundup: Dukes unveil 2014 football slate

Daily Staff Report - sports@nvdaily.com

HARRISONBURG -- The James Madison University football team announced its schedule for the 2014 season on Tuesday, including defending Colonial Athletic Association champion and national runner-up Towson among the Dukes' five home opponents.

The home game times will be tentatively set in the coming weeks but will still be subject to change based on CAA Television contracts.

The Dukes open with a pair of road games, heading to Football Bowl Subdivision opponent and Big 10 member Maryland on Aug. 30 before traveling to Lehigh on Sept. 6. The matchup with the Mountain Hawks will be the first time the two schools have met since the dramatic 14-13 JMU victory at Lehigh en route to the 2004 national championship. Madison returns home to take on Saint Francis (Pa.) for the home opener on Sept. 13.

For the third consecutive season James Madison opens conference play on the road, traveling to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Sept. 20. JMU then takes on Delaware on Sept. 27, but this time at Bridgeforth Stadium, representing the Blue Hens' first visit since the stadium remodeling was completed in 2011.

From there, the Dukes play two more conference tilts, traveling to Albany on Oct. 4 and then home to host Towson for Family Weekend on Oct. 11.

Following a bye week on Oct. 18, JMU hits the road for the final non-conference contest of the season at Charlotte on Oct. 25, a return of last year's contest in Harrisonburg. After hosting William & Mary on Nov. 1 for Homecoming, JMU plays back-to-back CAA road games, traveling for the first time to Stony Brook on Nov. 8 and then down the road two hours at in-state rival Richmond on Nov. 15. James Madison wraps up the 2014 regular season hosting league newcomer Elon on Nov. 22.
