Prep roundup: Falcons fall to first-place Mustangs

WOODSTOCK — Central hung tough with first-place George Mason, but fell short, 57-51, in Bull Run District girls basketball action on Friday.

The Falcons trailed 21-20 at the half and 42-39 entering the fourth period. The Falcons were 10-for-22 from the free-throw line, and the Mustangs were 11-for-14. Katelyn Poston led the Falcons (10-6) with 24 points. Rebecca Truban had six points and eight steals, and Tamra Scott had five points and eight rebounds for Central.

Wilson Memorial 61, Stonewall Jackson 26

QUICKSBURG — The Generals managed to stay close to the Green Hornets in the first period, but Wilson Memorial then pulled away for a Shenandoah District girls basketball victory.

The Green Hornets led 12-9 after the first period, but out-scored the Generals 19-6 in the second period. Emily Jordan led the Generals (0-15, 0-8 Shenandoah) with 10 points.

Postgraduate boys basketball

Massanutten Academy 96, New River CC 50

CHATHAM — Massanutten Academy’s postgraduate boys basketball team had little trouble dispatching New River Community College in opening round of the Josh Howard Military Challenge on Friday at Hargrave Military Academy.

De’Shar Wilson-Thomas scored 19 points and Dwayne Foreman added 18 as the Colonels rolled to a 96-50 victory.

Dimitri Sousa added 14 points and Isaac Fleming had 12 for Massanutten (18-7).
