Prep roundup: Falcons toe line often in win

MADISON — Visiting Central High School’s girls basketball team spent much of the night at the free-throw line against Bull Run District rival Madison County on Tuesday.

The Falcons attempted 51 free throws, making 25, in a 64-50 victory.

Katelyn Poston paced Central (10-4, 7-2 Bull Run) with 21 points, five steals and four assists. Meredith Phillips added 14 points and six rebounds, and Sydney Plum chipped in 10 points, four steals and three assists in the win. Rebecca Truban added five steals for the Falcons.

Madison County (5-8, 3-5 Bull Run) got a game-high 26 points from Chandler Gentry, who connected on six 3-pointers.

Luray 50, Stonewall Jackson 24

QUICKSBURG — Katelyn Keyser and Sable Ponn combined for 23 points to lead visiting Luray to a 50-24 win over Shenandoah District rival Stonewall Jackson in girls basketball Tuesday.

Keyser finished with a game-high 13 points and Ponn added 11 for the Bulldogs. Keyser sank four of eight 3-pointers for Luray (9-3, 5-1 Shenandoah).

Emily Jordan finished with 10 points to lead Stonewall (0-11, 0-6 Shenandoah). Makaela Turner added eight points for the Generals.

Stuart Hall 50, Massanutten Academy 24

WOODSTOCK — Visiting Stuart Hall had more than enough firepower to dispatch Massanutten Academy in girls basketball on Tuesday.

Katie Hoover had 13 points to lead the Dragons. Charlotte Hereford tallied 11 points and Sydney Nuckoles had 10 more for Stuart Hall.

Mara Dorsey finished with 10 points to lead the Colonels. Selah Applin added eight points for Massanutten (3-3).

Boys basketball

Strasburg 49, Moorefield 32

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Strasburg picked up a road win behind the solid all-around play of senior Matthew Clutter on Tuesday.

Clutter had a game-high 13 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals as the Rams downed Moorefield (W.Va.) 49-32.

Tyler Doman added 12 points for Strasburg (8-5), and Ryan Smoot also had a productive night with eight points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jonathan Kloosterman chipped in seven points and 10 rebounds for the Rams.

Aaron Cole and Austin Williams had nine points each to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Mountain View Christian 75, Front Royal Christian 47

FRONT ROYAL — Jonathan Cornwell poured in 38 points to lead Mountain View Christian Academy to a 75-47 boys basketball win over Front Royal Christian on Tuesday.

Josh Medina added a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists and Wayne Alsberry nearly did the same with eight points and 17 rebounds. Alsberry also had six blocks and teammate Cole Higgs had seven blocks for Mountain View (6-4).
