Prep roundup: Rams ride hot start to win over Moorefield

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Strasburg rode a fast start to a 57-47 non-district girls basketball win over host Moorefield (W.Va.) on Wednesday.

The Rams (7-6) jumped out to a 35-20 lead at halftime and held on for the win. Senior center Mikala Alsberry led Strasburg with 18 points and nine rebounds, while sophomore Kelsey Jenkins finished with 14 points for the Rams. Emily Melnikoff added nine points for Strasburg.

“We got out to a good start. We shot the ball really well in the first half,” Rams coach Joel Morgan said. “We would’ve liked to have played better in the second half, but we did enough to win. We’re real pleased with the win.”

James Wood 53, Stonewall Jackson 34

QUICKSBURG — Host Stonewall Jackson fell to James Wood, 53-34, in non-district girls basketball action on Wednesday.

Junior point guard Emily Jordan led Stonewall Jackson (0-12) with 14 points, while senior Makaela Turner finished with nine points for the Generals.

Danielle Rizzari led James Wood (9-2) with nine points. Brooke Nesselrodt also had seven points for the Colonels.

Postgraduate boys basketball

Fishburne Military School 65, Massanutten Academy 62

WAYNESBORO — Host Fishburne Military School held off Massanutten Academy for a 65-62 victory on Wednesday in postgraduate boys basketball action.

Isaac Fleming finished with 21 points to lead the Colonels. Raquan Brown-Johnson added 12 points and Fa-Teem Glen had 10 for Massanutten.
