NEW YORK, N.Y. - Senior Evan Griffin paced the Shenandoah University indoor track and field programs Friday at the NYC Gotham Cup hosted by New York University.
Competing in the shot put and the weight throw, Griffin had a pair of top eight finishes for the Hornets.
In the weight, Griffin had a toss of 14.90 meters to finish third overall while his 14.02 shot put was good for eighth.
His weight throw set a new school record.
Josh McCauley was 11th in the weight and 28th in the shot to back up Griffin.
The women also had their best result in the throwing events.
Junior Alicia Feliciano was 14th in the weight with a toss of 10.67 meters.
Feliciano's classmate, Jaclyn Mohlmann, matched that 14th place finish with a 2:29.34 in the 800 meters.
Senior Dorothy Earner also had a solid finish for the women with an 11:19.04 in the 3000 meters that was good for 18th.
Emily Cobb and Megan Battaglia both broke the previous school record in the 500 meter dash, with Cobb claiming the new mark at 1:34.20.
Sophomore Bobby Lewis rounded out the notable finishes by just missing the school best in the 60 meters by posting 7.34 seconds. He was just .02 from the school mark.
Both squads are back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Open.
