LEXINGTON – Visiting Shenandoah University saw its three-game ODAC road winning streak come to an end Tuesday evening with a 61-52 loss at Washington and Lee.

The Hornets (7-11, 4-5 ODAC) led 32-21 with 90 seconds remaining in the first half, but saw the Generals (5-11, 3-6) sandwich a 12-1 run around the halftime break to bring the contest back to even.

The two teams then remained within four points of one another until Washington & Lee clinched the contest with a 9-0 run from the 7:11 to 3:12 marks that turned a 44-44 contest into a 53-44 Generals lead.

Shenandoah, which shot an even 50 percent (15 of 30) in the opening stanza, went cold following the break to help W&L mount its comeback.

SU missed 24 of its initial 28 shots from the field in the second (14 percent), and combined with a 46-32 rebounding deficit, could not stop the Generals charge.

The Generals, who were outscored 24-6 in the paint in the opening 20 minutes, only allowed the Hornets two points from in close in the second half (while scoring 12 of their own) to help contribute to the comeback win.

SU ended up shooting 6 of 32 (19 percent) in the second half.

Imani Heggins had 20 points, Holly Chittenden 12 and Crystal Petrus 10 for Shenandoah.

Annie Gauf had 15 for the hosts.

Heggins had a double-double with 10 rebounds.

The women host Roanoke on Saturday at 2 in an Alumnae Day contest. It is also a Red Out for the squad.
