RICHMOND -- James Madison University senior guard Kirby Burkholder is the Colonial Athletic Association co-Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday.
This is the sixth time this season Burkholder has claimed the league honor and the eighth time it has gone to a JMU player.
Burkholder averaged a double-double for the week, scoring 23.5 points per game and pulling in 12.5 boards per outing. She scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a win at Delaware on Thursday before completing her week with a 28 point, 11 rebound showing against Hofstra on Sunday. The two double-doubles gives her nine on the season and 23 in her career. In addition, the Preseason CAA Player of the Year had four steals, two blocks and an assist on the week.
Burkholder's 47 points moved her into a tie for seventh on JMU's all-time scoring list with 1,496 points (Shanna Price, 1999-03) while she also moved into fourth on JMU's all-time rebounding list with 848.
This season, the senior from Bridgewater is averaging a team-best 18.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. She ranks third in the league in scoring and fourth in rebounding.
North Carolina-Wilmington's Kelva Atkins shared co-Player of the Week with Burkholder while William & Mary's Marlena Tremba is the CAA Rookie of the Week.
