Prep roundup: SVCA’s Yarnall, Hotek earn first-team all-state honors

Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy sophomore Samantha Yarnall headlined an impressive list of postseason honorees for the Patriots by earning Virginia Association of Christian Athletics (VACA) first-team all-state honors.

Yarnall, who led the Patriots to a VACA regional championship this past weekend, was named the Most Valuable Player for the North Region.

SVCA senior Evan Hotek earned VACA first-team all-state honors and freshman Tyler Fincham was a second-team pick for the Patriots’ boys team, which also won a regional championship Saturday to secure a first-round state playoff game today.

Yarnall was also named MVP and to the first team on the VACA all-North Region team, along with teammates Grace Snyder and Hannah McGann. Yarnall was also the all-district MVP, earning first-team honors along with Snyder and McGann. Teammate Carol Bartholomew was a second-team all-district pick.

Hotek was a first-team all-North Region selection, and Fincham and Shyheim Gilkerson garnered second-team all-region honors. Hotek was the district MVP and earned first-team honors along with Fincham and Gilkerson. Aaron Sutton and Patrick McGrath landed second-team all-district honors for SVCA.
