FRONT ROYAL -- Sherando jumped out to an early lead, and then had to rally in the fourth quarter during a 60-55 Northwestern District girls basketball victory over Skyline on Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors led 21-6 after the first period, but only scored a combined 22 points in the second and third periods. The Hawks were able to take a two-point lead with a little over five minutes left in the game, but the Warriors responded and pulled out the victory.
"In the fourth quarter we settled down, after we had lost our focus a little, Sherando coach Mike Marsh said. "We lost our intensity, but it was good that the girls found enough of it to get the lead back and hold on to win."
Jess Hakel led the Warriors (12-6) with 16 points, Audra Sites had 10 points, four assists and five steals. Davina Lane had 13 points, while Heidi Brown had 11 for the Warriors.
Shayne Clifton led the Hawks with 21 points, while Quinn Breeden added 12.
