BRIDGEWATER - Host Bridgewater used a quick start Tuesday to key a 72-65 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah.
The win gives Bridgewater (11-10, 6-7 ODAC) a sweep of the season series with Shenandoah (12-10, 4-9).
BC, which took a 39-26 lead into the break, broke open the contest with a 19-6 midway through the opening stanza.
Leading 12-9 after CJ Rudisill hit one of two from the line for SU, the Eagles reeled off the 19-6 spurt in the next 6:41 to take a 31-15 lead with 7:23 remaining.
This lead eventually expanded out to 21 points by the 4:30 mark before Shenandoah ended the opening 20 minutes on an 8-0 run.
BC kept its lead in double digits for the initial 17:24 of the second before the Hornets made matters interesting with an 11-0 run from the 6:30 to :26 marks to make it 70-63 in favor of the hosts.
Bridgewater then iced the game with a pair of Tavis Stapleton free throws with 21 seconds left.
Sophomore Jimi Starks had a career-high 20 points of the bench for Shenandoah with Avery Green, the leading scorer in the ODAC, adding 11.
Stapleton had 15 for the Eagles.
Bridgewater, which shot 40 percent from the field for the game, had a 47-41 advantage on the glass.
The Hornets also shot 40 percent from the field but were held to a 13 percent performance from behind the arc (2 of 16) and 54 percent from the field (15 of 28).
The SU men host Lynchburg on Saturday at 4:00 in a Senior Day contest.
