Falcons fall in state semis

HARRISONBURG -- Central's run in the postseason came to an end Saturday with a 75-52 loss to Spotswood in the Class 3A girls basketball state semifinals.
The Falcons hung tough with the Trailblazers throughout the first half. Spotswood led 10-9 after the first eight minutes, but the Trailblazers scored 31 points in the second period to build a 41-27 halftime edge.
The Trailblazers, the defending 3A state champions, hit nine 3-pointers during the game. Elizabeth Dofflemyer had 26 points and six rebounds to lead the way. Tayler Dodson had 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
Spotswood (26-1) will play Broadway in the state final on Thursday at VCU at noon.
Central (19-9) was led by freshman Tamra Scott with 22 points and 19 rebounds. Senior Katelyn Poston had eight points for the Falcons.
