Prep roundup: Warriors top Gobblers in girls soccer

STEPHENS CITY -- Sherando's girls soccer team started its season off on the right foot as the Warriors defeated Broadway, 3-1, in non-district action Saturday.
Ryan McKenna had two goals, and Audra Sites had one to lead the Warriors (1-0). Tori Dean had two assists and Amanda Fogarty had one for Sherando. The Warriors outshot the Gobblers, 11-10. Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Hott had eight saves for the Warriors.
"For being only the third day on the field it was a good result," Sherando coach Rob Kilmer said. "I was very pleased."
SVCA 16, Oaktree Academy 7
NORFOLK -- The Patriots scored 10 runs in the first inning, and cruised to a win over Oaktree Academy on Saturday.
The Patriots (1-1) had 21 hits in the victory. Matt Rogers went 2-for-2 with two runs scores and three RBIs, including a double and a triple for the Patriots. Tristan Baker went 2-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI, including a triple, and Taylor Jones went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Patriots.
Broadway 25, Sherando 12
STEPHENS CITY -- Sherando's offense was strong, but it still came up short to Broadway, 25-12, in non-district softball action on Saturday.
Sherando was led on offense by Michaela Carper and Carly Nixon with three hits and an RBI each. Heidi Brown and Katie Manson had two hits, including a triple each. Sara Stickman, Jessy Shipman and Niki Marshall each had a hit for the Warriors (0-1).
RICHMOND -- Randolph-Macon Academy's Brook Blair claimed Most Valuable Player honors as the Yellow Jackets took second in the Benedictine Invitational on Saturday.
Blair tallied eight goals and five assists as R-MA went 2-1 on the day. The Yellow Jackets beat Fork Union Military Academy, 6-4, and scored a 7-6 win over Powhatan. Host Benedictine beat R-MA, 9-6.
