CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- The Shenandoah University men's golf team opened its participation at the 43rd Annual Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Championships by shooting a collective 290 Friday afternoon.
Playing the par-70, 6110-yard Scarlet course, Shenandoah posted four scores in the 70s for the first time this spring.
The 290 is also the best score of the year for the Hornets.
Sophomores Doc Schulte and Evan Cocke paced SU by both shooting two-over 72.
Senior Zach Ramey and freshman Brennan Lloyd backed up Schulte and Cocke with a pair of 73s.
Adam Flees had a 79 that did not count toward the team total.
The Hornets will play the par-72 Gold course Saturday with the tournament field split following the day's play. SU will play either the Scarlet or Gold course on Sunday in the final round depending upon its collective finish from the opening two rounds.
