WINCHESTER — Visiting Marymount University used a strong third quarter to down Shenandoah 12-6 in non-conference men’s lacrosse action Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (5-5) scored the opening two goals of the contest, holding Marymount (7-2) off the board in the first quarter, only to see the Saints tally nine of the game’s next 10 goals to take control of the contest.

Thanks to a Frank Tejera goal at 4:33 of the second and a Connor Kellogg goal for the Saints 1:28 later, the two teams entered halftime tied at 3-3.

Marymount opened the third by scoring the initial six goals of the stanza, holding SU without a goal until Aaron Paul scored the first of two straight 1:44 before the end of the period.

Paul, at 13:10 and Tejera, at 11:19, put together a three-goal run for the hosts to make it 9-6 in favor of Marymount, but this would be as close as coach Tim Marshall’s squad would get.

Marymount scored the final three goals of the game to provide the final margin of victory.

Tejera and Paul both had two goals for the Hornets with Tilghman Sanders adding an goal and an assist while Drew Brooks had two assists.

The Saints outshot Shenandoah 36-24, owned a 30-29 advantage in groundballs and won 16 of 22 faceoffs.

Hornets goalie Ben Judy had six saves with two Marymount goalies making a total of 11 stops.

SU is on the road on Sunday for an ODAC game at nationally-ranked Lynchburg.
