WINCHESTER — The Shenandoah University women’s lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season Wednesday afternoon as one of its players achieved a career milestone.

Shenandoah (1-3) downed Frostburg State 14-9 in non-league action, but the big story was senior midfielder Samantha Sisson.

Sisson, a three-time first team All-league selection, became the Hornets’ all-time goals and points leader as the tallied seven goals and three assists in the win over the Bobcats (0-4).

Now with 180 goals and 67 assists for 247 points, Sisson breaks the goals and points marks both previously held by Kelly Matagiese.

Sisson needs eight assists to pass former teammate Jennie Ott for the all-time lead in that category.

The Keuka Park, N.Y., native had a hand in the Hornets’ first three goals, scoring twice, as SU tallied the first four goals of the game.

She broke the points record at 28:46 of the second as she finished off a Liz Bereit feed to make the score 8-2 in favor of the hosts.

At 17:27, Bereit fed Sisson again for the record-breaking goal.

Sisson then added two more goal, at 17:18 and 9:36, as the Hornets cruised to the victory.

Thanks to that opening flurry, Shenandoah held at least a four-goal lead over Frostburg for all but the 56 seconds of the final 39:34 of the contest.

The Bobcats, on the strength of a 23-10 advantage in the second half, did take 33 of the game’s 57 shots.

SU goalkeeper Ashley Cross was outstanding, making a season-high 16 saves to help maintain the comfortable margin.

Frostburg also had a 23-10 advantage in groundballs, while the Hornets won 15 of 24 draws.

In addition to Sisson’s 10 points, Bereit had four goals and three assists while freshman Erin Higgins added three goals and senior Samantha Donaghy two assists.

Shenandoah continues this homestand on Saturday with a non-league game against Goucher.
