SU roundup: Green named all-region
Daily Staff Reports -- email@example.com
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Senior guard Avery Green has been named third team All-South Region by D3hoops.com in selections announced Monday morning.
Green, the leading scorer in the ODAC this season, adds his first All-Region accolade to his first team All-ODAC selection from last month.
Green averaged 24.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game this past season for the Hornets and became the program's 17th player to crack the 1000-point barrier with a second-half free throw in a January 11 victory at Roanoke.
The Fredericksburg native was named the ODAC Player of the Week twice this season, to the BB&T Classic and Daytona Shootout All-Tournament teams (earning MVP honors at the former tournament) and to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week once.
The guard completed his career as the No. 6 scorer in program history with 1,343 points.
FOREST -- Junior third baseman Michael Paul has been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week for baseball in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Paul helped SU to five wins in six games, including a doubleheader sweep of Hampden-Sydney on Saturday and a Sunday victory over No. 8 Cortland (N.Y.) State, by hitting .423 with six doubles, two home runs and 14 RBI.
Paul hit .375 in the three league wins over Eastern Mennonite and Hampden-Sydney while posting four hits in six at-bats in non-league contests against No. 7 Salisbury and No. 8 Cortland State.
In Sunday's win over the Red Dragons, Paul was 3-for-3 with a home run and a two-run double.
This is his first league honor.
Shenandoah is back in action with an ODAC game against Eastern Mennonite this week. Depending on the weather, this game could be played either Wednesday or Thursday.
