Prep roundup: Holsinger sparks Generals to 1st baseball win

NEW MARKET -- Freshman Cole Holsinger had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run to lead Stonewall Jackson to a 2-1 baseball win over Shenandoah District rival Stuarts Draft on Friday at Rebel Field.

Holsinger was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a fifth-inning single that snapped a 1-all tie.

Matthew Murphy picked up the win after allowing just one run on six hits and a walk in five innings. Colton Harlow was overpowering in relief, fanning all six batters he faced to earn the save.

Bradley Henschel added a double for Stonewall jackson (1-3, 1-1 Shenandoah).

George Mason 12, Central 2 (5 innings)

FALLS CHURCH -- Visiting Central couldn't muster much offense in a 12-2 baseball setback shortened to five innings via the mercy rule against Bull Run District rival George Mason on Friday.

Tristan Rau and Hayden Bauserman each had a double for Central (3-2, 1-2 Bull Run).

Grant Hagler earned a complete-game victory for the Mustangs.

Massanutten Academy 16, Mt. View Christian 6 (6 innings)

WOODSTOCK -- John Love had a perfect day at the plate and proved a menace on the base paths as Massanutten Academy picked up a 16-6 baseball victory over Mountain View Christian Academy on Friday.

The game only went six innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. By then, Love had gone 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. He also stole six bases and earned the win on the mound.

Justin Elshafie chipped in with a home run, and fanned seven while pitching.

Also for Massanutten, Jeff Brown and Chris Alicea each had 2-for-4 outings.

Softball

Central 1, George Mason 0

FALLS CHURCH -- Central's Bekah Ansbro twirled a four-hit shutout as the visiting Falcons topped George Mason 1-0 in Bull Run District softball action Friday.

Ansbro struck out 16 batters in the win.

Sydney Plum paced the offense with a 2-for-3 day, including a home run.
